Hanoi State Data Center built by FPT IS put into operation
The kick-off ceremony for the Hanoi State Data Center (HNSDC) built by FPT IS was held at the Hanoi Department of Information and Communication (DIC) on February 28, representing a milestone for information technology (IT) applications in State agencies moving towards e-government in the capital.
Mr. Nguyen Minh Hong - Deputy Minister of Information and Communication; Mr. Nguyen Thanh Phuc - Director of the Information and Technology Applications Office of the Ministry of Information and Communication (MIC); Ms. Nguyen Thi Bich Ngoc - Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee and head of Hanoi City Steering Committee on IT campaigns; and Mr. Pham Quoc Ban - Director of the Hanoi DIC, attended the ceremony along with FPT IS General Director Mr. Duong Trieu Dung and representatives from the World Bank and IT enterprises in Hanoi.
At the ceremony, Mr. Pham Quoc Ban said that the HNSDC under the DIC was funded by World Bank loans worth more than VND66 billion and the project's deployment and operation will help overcome many of the current IT inadequacies in the capital.
The leaders together put their hands on the globe to perform the rites of officially operating the Hanoi State data center
The HNSDC was designed according to modern data center standards and is one of the very few data centers in Vietnam that meets international standard QAA 942, level 3. It currently has 31 physical servers and 81 virtual servers, providing solutions for data integration, backup and sharing across the city to ensure connections with the Government. The center also has integrated data with 19 websites, e-portals, document management software, and email capabilities.
After the ceremony, delegates visited the center's machinery compartments at the DIC, including the operations, network, server and power rooms. All rooms have guaranteed security with international standard security cameras and card swiping and fingerprint identification systems to ensure the center's smooth operation 24/7.
The HNSDC functions as a means for connecting, integrating and operating IT systems throughout the city. This is essential for the organization and management of shared information systems and databases in Hanoi, providing access to information for agencies, units and other users. It is also a focal point connecting the city's internal networks with other network systems, to ensure information security and internet safety for the entire city network.
The data center is the "heart of the electronic administration" and also a key factor for establishing full e-government services in Hanoi by 2015.
In the short term, the data center will operate as a unit of the State, which will fund the full cost of its operations. It will be reclassified after it is put into stable operation.
